When it comes to the plastic container and plastic bottles, there seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around. Hopefully with a little education we can all start putting our plastic products to better use and disposal so that we are protecting our health and our planet. There is nothing more important then being safe so make sure that you pass on all of the knowledge you gain on plastic containers so that your friends and family can benefit as well.
Many people have the idea that not all plastic containers are able to be recycled because of the different number codes on the plastic. These numbers have nothing to do though with whether or not the item can be recycled. All it means is that it must be sorted with other plastics of the same number because of the particular chemicals that were used in making that plastic.

There seems to also be a lot of myths floating around about the water in plastic bottles tasting just as good and being just as healthy as water outside of the plastic. The fact is though there is a chemical called bisphenol A, otherwise known as BPA that is a compound used in the making of polycarbonate which is what is used to make the plastic container. It seems that BPA has been linked to cancer in people who consume the chemical over a long period of time.
What happens is that BPA seeps into the water affecting how pure it is and it sometimes can make the taste a little different as well. Although this has been noticed there is nothing that has been done about it yet as they have been unable to come up with a replacement chemical yet. But drinking water in plastic bottles is not the only thing to be concerned about.
Most people feel completely safe when they microwave their television dinners in those plastic containers that the food comes in. Leaving the plastic film cover on the plastic container is suggested by the cooking instructions. Of course no one thinks there is anything wrong with this because a company is telling them that it is okay to do it. The fact is though there are dangers to cooking in this manner.
When you leave that plastic film cover over your food you are going to want to make sure that it does not come in contact with your food. If the plastic is being heated in the microwave while it is in direct contact with your food, many harmful chemicals are being transferred to the food you are about to eat. It is best to make sure that the plastic wrap or film is at least one inch above your food. A better idea would be to just completely remove the plastic film all together. There is no reason the food still will not cook well enough.
When it comes to protecting your health and the health of your family you are going to want to be careful to make sure that you have a clear understanding of what is a myth and what is actually fact when it comes to plastic. Just because something is available on the market for you to purchase and consume does not make it safe.
